Western (Eng. western, lit.: «western») - a direction in art, characteristic of the USA. The action in westerns mainly takes place in the second half of the 19th century in the Wild West - in the future western states of the USA, as well as in Western Canada and Northern Mexico. An important characteristic of the Western is the collision of a primitive and outdated way of life with an innovative way of life. Often this conflict is shown through a symbolic collision of characters. One of the popular plot lines of the Western is traditionally the collision of opposing forces, when one side is represented by criminal elements - criminals and groups of bandits, and the other - supporters of «law and order».
